Ok, I have updated the bios to What I’ve discovered since performing these operations is that my problem is not unique–there are lots of people on this and other web sites looking for a cure to this particular predicament. Try resetting hard disk zero fill, “low level format” using hard disk manufacturer’s diagnostics. The answers above are very good. Deleting partition with XP setup is not sufficient. Maybe try a newer disk.

Trouble installing 2 WD Sata on Asus a7n8x-e deluxe

I had to download the raid controller driver from the ASUS website and once this was installed I was able to see the drive in Windows.
